Like each of their collections, a happy home was conceived as a cohesive body of work. Every piece plays an integral role the exhibition’s narrative but alone still embodies the theme through the ever-present motifs of family, security and home. Like many of Henry collections, a happy home references Mid-Century imagery, in part because the proliferation of these images has made them synonymous with an idyllic America but also because their iconic style can be manipulated to recall something both familiar and somehow eternally modern. Subtle twists in context and sly situational juxtapositions drive each composition, crafted to encourage discovery but leaving judgment to the observer. True mixed media works utilize a variety of techniques and materials.
