SUSANNE FORESTIERI
FILM NOIR

OCTOBER 4-26, 2007

Susanne Forestieri’s
newest series of drawings are based on film stills that fit her personal definition of Film Noir. She rummaged through chaotic boxes of discarded movie stills in old bookshops to find the right voice for this series. Attracted by their style, high contrast, dramatic shadows and dream-like nature she looked for frames that could condense a drama into a single image. Similar to dreams, they create a strange, erotic, ambivalent and cruel universe. The characters are often victims, trapped by a malevolent world or by their demons within. Women are of questionable virtue and heros lose their innocence.
