JW CALDWELL Available works unless indicated 'sold' from the exhibition "Dismounting Your High Horse with Style and Grace" April 08
JW's roots lie in a small western town where the image of the cowboy loomed large. He rejected the thought of 'cowboy art' as pedestrian when he was a young student. Now, as a result of imprinting and intellect, Caldwell re-visits this deep influence with re-charged metaphorical power. He merges pop and populist, sneaking in some pretty powerful philosophy. Messages of solitudal setbacks that result in the old myth 'The Cowboy always gets back on his horse'. These paintings are of fear and failure-resulting in strength and hope.
